Shadowboxing is a staple of all combat sports.
It’s effective, it’s efficient, and most of all…it’s fun. When you’re tired of boring cardio, I recommend shadowboxing. It’s not only something that gets you into shape by burning some calories, it can also sharpen your punching, kicking, elbows, knees, and all kinds of fighting goodness!
Progress is one of the best ways to keep from giving up on something. We all like doing something when we’re good at it, but what if we’re not good? Well, that’s also not bad. Why? Because if you’re bad at something, there’s plenty of room for growth and progress!
You ever grow plants, raise a puppy, watch kids grow up (could be yours, your relatives, your students, etc.)? It’s a great feeling seeing them progress, no? I bet it is.
If that’s such a great feeling, how often do you look at yourself in the mirror and see the same growth? Shadowboxing not only makes you stare at the mirror (or you can record with a camera so you can focus 100% on your technique), it also shows your growth. Imagine taking a before and after of your shadowboxing. Wouldn’t that be great?
You could see your technique evolve and your body build! The best way to stay motivated is progress, and the best way to make progress is to take steps forward…no matter how small. A step is a step. If you want to be great, you just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
One foot in front of the other.
